We’re excited to share an updated 8-second render of Arthur’s Court! This is part of our ongoing effort to develop the scene’s look and feel, with help from Elliot Forrest.
As we refine the visuals, one of our biggest challenges is balancing render times with artistic complexity. To achieve this, we’ve been compositing certain elements, like the fire simulations, separately. This approach not only gives us more control over the final look but also helps streamline the rendering process. Every second counts when dealing with heavy simulations, and breaking things into layers allows for faster iteration without compromising on quality.
One area we’re still refining is the lighting. While the fireplace adds warmth to front-facing shots, other parts of the scene are starting to feel too dark. We’re working on redistributing light to create a more balanced and immersive atmosphere. We also need to tone down the flickering of the flames.
Sharing work in progress can be challenging, especially when it doesn’t look perfect or even better than the previous version. However, every iteration is a step forward—an opportunity to learn, refine, and explore new ideas or techniques. Each version helps us understand what works, what doesn’t, and how to achieve amazing immersive visuals.
