A Boundless Experience, the Mabinogion

Updated: Mar 6

Boundless Studio has officially taken on it's biggest project yet, a 10 minute 360 immersive animation based on the Mabinogion and Welsh fairytales.

Below is some working progress concept art, with a little bit of background to each character. We are not set on using these creatures, when our script is complete we will have more clarity.

Coblynau

Coblynau

A gnome like creature said to inhabit Welsh mines. They are more likely to lead you astray in the dark unless shown the proper respect.

Asrai

Asrai

According to both Celtic and British mythology, the Asrai is a freshwater fairy that typically grows to about two to four feet tall, so long as they get to bathe in the moonlight every year. They can live for centuries if left undisturbed, indeed they tend to avoid humans and enjoy a quiet life. But watch out, their skin is so ludicrously cold that their touch is likely to burn your skin...

Afanc

Afanc

A water monster that used to live in the Llyn-yr-Afanc, in the River Conwy. If annoyed he would break the banks of the pool and cause the Conwy valley to flood, wreaking havoc to farms and livelihood,. Not helped by the fact it is also virtually indestructible with a hide so tough. Villagers made a plan to catch the Afanc, and after a great struggle they bound him and released him into a lake in the Lledr valley. There he became trapped, unable to climb the sturdy rocky banks...

Gwyllion

Gwyllion

Also known as the 'Old Woman of the Mountain', Gwyllion are ugly and quite scary fairies who will lead wanderers astray, especially in the dark.
